How To Wear Fall Plaid

My Brunette Adventure loyal reader and dear friend of mine, Sara, recently opened up the topic of Fall plaid. It got me thinking of the 101 ways to wear plaid this Fall. Plaid comes in so many shapes, sizes, and colors. Terms that are often associated with ‘plaid’ in fashion are Tartan, Plaid and Window Pane. I am sure many of your minds go straight to the ‘western cowgirl’ or ‘school girl’ look when you hear plaid. Plaid is much more than those two looks in our world today.

Bring plaid to the workplace and out to dinner. You can mix plaid with other prints as well, just don’t make your outfit too busy.

Work Appropriate Plaid

Are you going to the office? Try a plaid skirt or pants, a plain knit sweater, a structured bag, heels and you are ready.

Try a plaid blouse, with a colored trouser and black heels.

Try a plaid coat over your LBD.

Plaid Button Up Shirts

Are you thinking how you can get more from your plaid button up shirts? Dress it up a little more by throwing on trousers, a crew neck sweater over the top of the button up, a blazer, and loafers. Want to dress it down, wear your button up with a pair of distressed denim pants and booties.

Think striped sweater with a tartan scarf?

Who wants to try out their plaid now? Be sure to mix it up, give it edge or polish whatever you are feeling.  There really are endless possibilities to incorporating plaid into your outfit.

Another plaid outfit idea

A plaid short top tucked into a black faux leather midi skirt with black heels. Love it!

See what you have in your closet that is a plaid pattern for this Fall season. I encourage you to see what pieces you already have that can work together to make you a ‘Mad about plaid’ outfit. Try some of the ideas listed above to get you started.

Happy Plaid-ing,

2014 Fall/Winter Color Trends

It is the end of August and about that time to transition our wardrobes to Fall. I am a lover of Fall time and Fall wardrobes so I am on board. Here are a few color trends for this Fall/Winter 2014.

These are those bolder tones to brighten your Fall/Winter days. ‘Jewel Tones’

These are more pastel, soft tones to rock this Fall/Winter.  I am thinking maybe a long, fitted wool coat in one of these colors?

Oxblood shade is one of my favorite shades for this Fall. This shade is also known as Burgandy, Cranberry or Wine. I will be sure to add a few pieces of this color to my must have list.

You by all means do not have to pull off a full length dress or even a pair of trousers to get the color oxblood  into your wardrobe this Fall. You can try other items like a handbag, nail polish or a wool wide brim fedora.

Color trends are a great way to see what colors to expect a lot of designers and retailers to carry for this season.  Each color is not going to be exact and will vary in shades.

What color trend are you loving for the Fall/Winter seasons?

Keep posted to the blog, I will be adding a ‘Fall/Winter Must Have Items’ post.

Much Love,
