DIY Gold Dipped Stool

DIY Gold Dipped StoolMy gold obsession expands in my office with this DIY white and gold stool project I recently completed. This stool was a light birch wood color for many years. It has been a handy stool, table, stepping stool and hoarder of random things piled on top during its life at my home.  I wanted to give my multi-purpose stool a facelift with a nice paint job. As the ideas started rolling, the one that stuck in my head the most was GOLD being on this stool somewhere.  I gathered my supplies and went to work. It was as easy as one, two, three.

Sorry for the lack of how-to pictures, I did not get any photos before or during the process. I did find a Google image of what the stool originally looked like, it is at the bottom of the post.

Later, I might also add some design to the top of the seat, but for now I am loving this little number as a new-ish addition to my office. Are you a fan of all things gold? I love turning pre-owned things into NEW again things!

Supplies Needed:

  • Hand sander (or sand paper if you do not have a hand sander)
  • Stool (mine was $20 at Target a few years ago, try IKEA’S cute option here)
  • White spray paint (prime + paint is best option)
  • Matte Gold or Gold Metallic spray paint (depends on what you are wanting)
  • Ruler
  • Blue painters tape

Steps:

  1. Make sure to wipe down your stool of any resadue that may be on your stool.
  2. Sand your stool. Do not over sand as you will start chipping away the wood. Sand just enough to remove any varnish or finishes that were applied to the stool. Make sure to wipe down your stool after sanding to clear of any loose dust, you want a clean surface to paint.
  3.  Next, take your Primer + Paint spray paint in white and coat the entire stool. Be sure to use a well ventilated room or go outside to use the spray paint. You may need a few coats to get an even white finish over the entire stool. Wait for this to dry before moving to step 4.
  4. Once the stool is completely dry, use your ruler and blue painters tape to measure the area you would like to be gold. From the bottom of the leg I measured 4 1/2 inches and taped up the leg going towards the seat. You want to protect the white area that is majority of the way up the legs.
  5. Once you have taped off the upper portion of your stool legs, spray the bottom leg area with your gold spray paint.
  6. Enjoy your Gold Dipped Stool!

Easy as pie! I just might add more DIY gold dipped pieces around my office and house.  When I have the chance to be creative in any shape or form I am all for it. What are some of your recent DIY projects?

Happy Halloween,

Jessica

Casual Game Day Look

Casual Game Day Look

Today was a fairly chilly day here in Indianapolis. With the chill, it is necessary to layer on your pieces for a game day look. A game day look can work for many different sporting events. Throw some of your basic wardrobe pieces together with your sports gear to support your team and you are ready to hit the crowd. I chose my favorite team, the Yankees. I know. I know. The season is over for the Yanks, but I will wear my gear no matter what time of year. My love for the Yankees started over ten years ago and mainly because of Derek Jeter. 🙂 I love throwing on my baseball hat to support my team. Recently, Derek Jeter did retired, but I will continue to support my Yanks! They also have my heart because New York City is also one of my favorite cities.

Casual Game Day LookI finally got around to getting my mane colored. I did go a little darker with my hair, can you even tell? I sure can! Casual Game Day Look

Don’t forget to layer if you will be outside tailgating! It is easy to layer on to stay warm outdoors and once inside you can remove layers to be more comfortable during the game.

I am not sure what provoked me to look over the fencing, but as soon as I saw this photo it reminded me of a favorite childhood movie, The Sandlot. Oh how that classic movie always made its way into the VCR at home for family movie night. I grew up with just an older brother, so my childhood days tended to have more tomboy-ish ways then my latter years. A little kick ball in the court, anyone?

Mens Edition: Fall Layering For Your Man

Mens Edition: Fall Layering For Your Man

Today on My Brunette Adventure, I wanted to give you, the readers, a different outfit post featuring Mr. B.  Ladies, whether you shop for your man or they shop for themselves, here is an idea for a simple layered mens look for fall. My husband has always done his own shopping and styling himself unless I gift him items. Have you and your man ever picked out each others date night outfits? You should try it one night and you must wear what each of you pick for the other. It is so much fun to see what they pick out for you and why.

To get the look, pick a pair of pants, whether jeans, trousers or slacks. Pair the pants with a button up, a sweater or cardigan, and boots or loafers. Next, depending on your man, accessorize with a watch and briefcase/or satchel. Options for men tend to be a lot less complicated than women’s clothing. Men have basic pieces that you can intermix all different ways. Try layering to get different looks.

These shoes are actually the boot style of boat shoes and are lined in fur for the cooler months. Both the watch and bag were Christmas gifts from me about two years ago. Mens Edition: Fall Layering For Your Man

He is not a serious person and goofing off is normal to him so a fun photo had to be included. He usually is taking the photos so today he did really well on the other side of the camera. Mr. B does not usually like his photo taken, but today I made it fun so he actually enjoyed himself.
