Let me start by saying I am not a huge book reader. Not a huge book reader as in I read maybe ONE book a year. I know, that is very sad and my Mom would be very disappointed if she knew, wait, she does now from this post. Ooopps. As a child I remember my Mom would take my older brother and I to the library to pick out books frequently during our summer breaks. We had so many days until we had to give my Mom a ‘book report’ of each book we read. As an adult I see the good my Mom was instilling in my brother and I to keep our minds fresh and learning all the time. We both have never been huge book readers, we are more the magazine enthusiast type. 🙂 I do however prefer the book in hands with pages, no ebooks. I know I am weird but its something about having the actual book and turning pages. No pushing a button to ‘flip’ the page.
I recently saw another blogger’s website whom had already read this book. The more I looked into what the book was about the more eager I became for it to arrive in the mail. Ask my husband, I was like a kid waiting on a piece of mail to arrive. Of course I do not believe in paying full price for a book and most books cost crazy amounts so off to eBay I went to bid on my #GIRLBOSS book. I won the auction for a fair price and waited patiently for it to arrive. Waiting, waiting, and waiting. No book. I contacted the seller to inform them of the truth I wanted to read my book and it was past the ‘estimated arrival date’ they had stated for the item. They informed me of some excuse and I waited some more until it finally was on my doorstep. Oh that was a beautiful day and I had that baby in my hands in minutes digging into the words of Sophia Amoruso. She is the Founder and CEO at Nasty Gal, an commerce company growing tremendously by the minute.
“..Success is about trusting your instincts and following your guy, knowing which rules to follow and which to break.”–#GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso
Sophia also writes, “I have three pieces of advice I want you to remember: Don’t ever grow up. Don’t become a bore. Don’t let the Man get to you. Okay? Cool. Then let’s do this.” –#GIRLBOSS
Lets just say that book was read in 48 hours flat! Yes, I know it is not that big of a book but for someone who hates reading books I could not put it down over a two day period. At a young age, I realized one day I wanted to work in the fashion industry and for MYSELF. Here I sit at twenty-something not quite where I want to be but working towards where I am going. This book inspired me not only professionally but as an individual. The points she describes allow me to relate in so many ways. I am not going to say I changed overnight, but it basically put a flame under my ass to go out and get what I have always wanted. Yes the book is named #GIRLBOSS. Yes she is a self made CEO. Yes she is a woman. No I do not want to be her twin. But I must say, this book is not only a great inspiration professionally but also on many other life lessons. I recommend both men and women to read this book, its a good one! I would recommend you now heading over to Amazon, eBay or wherever to get a copy to read. And NO neither Amazon or eBay are paying me for you to buy from them. Just an easy and cheap way to get a copy.
Have you read this book? What did you think? Thoughts?
From the book, “A #GIRLBOSS is in charge of her own life. She gets what she wants because she works for it.”–Sophia Amoruso, #GIRLBOSS
